Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary
Permanent Representative
H.E.
Mr. Le Hoai Trung was appointed by the H.E. Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet, President of the
Socialist Republic of Viet Nam as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary,
Permanent Representative of the Socialist Republic Viet Nam to the United
Nations Organization on 31 December 2010. At the time of the appointment, he
was Deputy Foreign Minister.
H.E. Mr. Le Hoai Trung’s past
responsibilities included those to advise to the Minister of Foreign Affairs
and undertake activities connected with Viet Nam’s relations with major
inter-governmental organizations, including the United Nations, the Non-Aligned
Movement, and major international issues of disarmament, security, human
rights, the environment, climate change and others.He took part in a large number of
international events, including the assumption of the post of Ambassador,
President of the First Period of the 2009 Session of the Geneva-based
Conference on Disarmament and Vice-President of the New York-based Executive
Board of the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations
Population Fund (2000-2001).
H.E. Mr. Le Hoai Trung worked for
the Department of General Political Affairs and the Department of International
Organizations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was Director-General of
the latter before being appointed as Deputy Foreign Minister. As
Director-General of International Organizations, he contributed to directing
Viet Nam’s participation in the United Nations Security Council as a
non-permanent member of the Organ (2008-2009), the preparation and presentation
of the country’s first national report under the Universal Periodical Review of
the Human Rights Council and the implementation of the “OneUN-Delivering as One” initiative in Viet Nam.His foreign postings were at the Mission of Viet Nam to the United
Nations in New York (1983-1986, 1991-1993 and
1999-2002) and was Minister-Counselor, Deputy Permanent Representative when he
was last posted at the Mission.
H.E. Mr. Le Hoai
Trung was born in Ha Noi, Viet
Nam in 1961.He obtained a PhD in Law Degree from the Graduate Academy of Social Sciences of Viet Nam, a Master of Arts Degree in Law and Diplomacy from the
Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University,
Massachusetts, USA
and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the School
of Foreign Affairs, Ha Noi, Viet Nam. He
speaks English and French.He and his
wife, Madam Le Nguyet Anh, have two sons and a daughter.
