In response to questions from AP, Kyodo News and Asahi Shimbun regarding Viet Nam’s reaction to Chinese tour operation in Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago and its other recent actions, such as sending high-ranking officials to attend the opening of Xinhua bookstore in Phu Lam (Woody) Island, and organizing fishing competition in the area of Hoang Sa Archipelago, Vietnam Foreign Ministry Spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi on April 30th 2013 said:

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi on April 24 made the following remarks in response to question from the media regarding Viet Nam’s reaction to Chinese official publication and release of a new map of the People’s Republic of China and “the 12th Five-year Plan of National Oceanic development”, which incorporate contents that violate Viet Nam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelagoes, sovereign rights and national jurisdiction in the East Sea:

“Viet Nam has indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, sovereign rights and national jurisdiction over its exclusive economic zone and continental shelf in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The Vietnamese National Assembly passed the Law of the Sea of Viet Nam on June 21, 2012. The passage of the law is a normal legislative activitiy that aims at completing the Vietnamese legal framework, serving the usage, management, protection of the country’s sea, islands and maritime development, facilitating its international integration and enhancing its cooperation with other countries for the sake of peace and stability in the region and the world.

Viet Nam supports Palestine’s efforts to soon become UN member

“Viet Nam has recognized the state of Palestine since 1988 and always supports regional and international efforts towards the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state that co-exists peacefully with the neighboring Israeli state with their borderline set up before June 1967.

In that spirit, Viet Nam supports Palestine’s efforts to soon become a member of the United Nations.”

Viet Nam affirms its indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa (the Paracels) and Truong Sa (the Spartlys) Archipelagoes. Foreign activities in the areas without Viet Nam’s consent are violations of Vietnamese sovereignty. Viet Nam asks parties to refrain from actions that may complicate the situation in the East Sea to contribute to maintaining peace, stability in the region.
