ANSWERS QUESTION ON 13th JUNE 2009
Question: Please provide Vietnam’s reaction
to UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution 1874 (2009) on the 25 May 2009
DPRK’s nuclear test?
Answer:
It is Vietnam’s
consistent policy to support a comprehensive ban on nuclear testing,
non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and movement toward completely
eliminating this kind of weapons. Vietnam supports peace, stability on
and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the efforts to achieve
these objectives.
In this spirit, we share the concern about the
nuclear test by DPRK and view that the measures in the new UNSC
resolution aim to prevent nuclear proliferation and ballistic missile
development in accordance with the UNSC resolution 1718. The
implementation of this resolution must avoid adversely affecting the
normal life of the population, and humanitarian, development as well as
other legitimate economic activities.
We would like to
emphasize that the new resolution affirms the Security Council’s
commitment to a peaceful, diplomatic and political solution to the
current situation; at the same time welcomes countries to facilitate a
comprehensive solution through dialogues, including the Six- Party
Talks mechanism, and to refrain from any action that might aggravate
tensions.
