Mr.
President,
Viet
Nam has been following closely developments in Syria and we are particularly
concerned by reports on the increasing violence, instability and loss of public
order in Syria, which seriously affect the rights of the Syrian people.
We
share the international community’s call to all parties concerned in Syria to exercise
self-restraint, end violence and find a political solution through constructive
dialogue and national reconciliation in conformity with the aspiration of the
Syrian people.
Viet
Nam supports the position espoused by many countries upholding the respect of the
purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law,
especially the principles of independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity
and non-interference in internal affairs of countries, as well as peaceful
settlement of conflicts and guarantee of the right to self-determination of the
Syrian people, and therefore, it is important that this process must be determined
by the Syrian people.
We
also support the efforts of the international community, including the League
of Arab States, in contributing constructively to the early restoration of
stability, dialogue towards national
reconciliation and promotion of peace in Syria, so that the Syrian people are
able to devote themselves to national
construction and development.
Thank you Mr. President.
